Floral wedding cakes are still an all-time favourite amongst couples whether they choose a traditional or more modern design.
We specialise in making beautifully delicate hand crafted sugar flowers which can be coloured and dusted with powders to make them look incredibly realistic. Usually, the flowers on the wedding cake will resemble either the bride's bouquet or the flowers at the reception and we do recommend bringing along any pictures or colour swatches to your wedding cake consultation to help us recreate the your flowers in sugar.
Amongst our most popular flowers are roses, peonies, lilies, orchids, lily-of-the-valley and daisies. We also make mini hand crafted sugar flowers for wedding cakes as well as miniature cakes wedding cakes and cupcakes. Sugar flowers can be kept once the wedding cake has been cut and should be stored in a container with some anti-moisture crystals.
Fresh flowers can also look fantastic and smell amazing on your wedding cake. However, there are a few points to consider when choosing between the two. Firstly, it is not a good idea to mix sugar flowers and fresh flowers since the moisture in the fresh flowers can melt the sugar. Make sure the fresh flowers have not been treated with any harmful pesticides.
Probably the most important thing to remember is that once cut, the flowers are no longer hydrated and will start to loose shape and wilt. Roses are a very poplular fresh flower to have on wedding cakes as they can stay fresh for up to six hours. It's best to avoid tulips, poppies and other delicate flowers. The best flowers to use are gerberas, daisies, lilies and magnolias as they all look fabulous on the wedding cake and will last the duration of the reception.
